Master Saruta started studying kendo from age 6. He has participated in and won many regional Tournaments in his youth, leaving behind an almost legendary record of victories. Master Saruta first started studying Batto-do 15 years ago while on a trip to the United States. At the time, the most common image of Japanese martial arts was “martial arts = ninjas”. The true essence of Japanese martial arts had been misunderstood and wasn’t reaching the practitioners at all. Shocked by this, Master Saruta decided to show the world how traditional Japanese martial arts should be. His feelings and desire to share his passion for the sword resulted in the formation of Ryuseiken Batto-do.
